[2] This is a theoretical scenario based upon the
[2] planned German invasion of the United States. It
[2] is based upon German Plan 3, which was an
[2] actual historical plan.
[2] German forces have landed at Provincetown and
[2] Rockport and are driving on Boston. The capture
[2] of Boston and possibly attacks on New York is
[2] expected to force the US to sue for peace and
[2] cede territories in the Caribbean or Pacific.
[2] The US have assembled their fleet for a counter
[2] strike.
[0] Our nation has established itself as one of the
[0] principle powers following our recent defeat of
[0] Spain.
[0] However, the US is not an industrial powehouse
[0] and our older ships are somewhat obsolescent.
[0] The modern Maine class are as good if not
[0] better than anything else afloat and some of our
[0] older cruisers have been re-equipped with
[0] modern quick fire guns.
[0] We have a number of options, in terms of trying
[0] to fight at long range (in which our older guns
[0] may not be particularly effective), trying to force
[0] a close range battle (in which our older ships
[0] lack quick fire guns), or trying to attack the
[0] German convoys.
[0] Our fleet has been reinforced with some of the
[0] new torpedo boat destroyers and these will
[0] hopefully give us an advantage as the Germans
[0] are to far from their bases to deploy equivalent
[0] assets.
[0] Our forces are confident and we have recent
[0] experience from the war in Spain. The Germans
[0] are a long way from their bases.
[1] Our fleet is expected to have the advantage
[1] over the US in any engagement and the plan is
[1] to scatter them and establish control of the sea.
[1] However, we also have a significant convoy of
[1] vital reinforcements and supplies and need to
[1] ensure this is protected and reaches the landing
[1] zones.
[1] The main strength pf our ships relates to the
[1] strong medium batteries in most of our fleet. We
[1] should seek to close the range to within 4,000
[1] metres to make the most of them.
[1] Whilst many of our larger guns have 30°
[1] elevation and good maximum range, they are
[1] not ideally suited to long range fire and do not
[1] match the massive guns of our foe. The old
[1] Brandenberg class have larger main guns but
[1] they were not designed for long range gunnery.
